Netherlands Visa Appointment from Dubai: A Step-by-Step Guide

UAE residents can apply for a Netherlands Schengen visa at VFS Global in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. The official NetherlandsWorldwide UAE guide lists both centres.

1. Check whether you need a visa

Emirati passport holders do not need a visa for a short visit to the Netherlands. If you hold another passport, use the official Dutch visa checker to confirm the requirement.

UAE residence alone does not make every resident visa-free.

2. Confirm that the Netherlands is the correct destination

Apply to the Netherlands if it is your only Schengen destination or where you will spend the most time. If several stays are equal, apply to the first country you will enter.

If another country is your main destination, use that country's application route.

The Netherlands also accepts applications for Luxembourg at its UAE application locations, but applicants should check Luxembourg's visa requirements before using that route.

3. Download the correct document checklist

NetherlandsWorldwide provides different checklists for tourism, business, family visits, and other purposes. Use the checklist that matches the trip.

A short-stay application generally requires evidence of:

• your identity and valid travel document;
• legal residence in the UAE;
• the purpose of travel;
• accommodation and transport;
• enough funds for the visit;
• travel medical insurance; and
• reasons you will return after the visit.

Do not submit a tourism itinerary for a business or family-visit application. The form and supporting documents should tell one consistent story.

4. Book VFS Global in Dubai or Abu Dhabi

After preparing the required documents, make an appointment through the VFS Global link on NetherlandsWorldwide.

The Dutch government advises applicants to book appointments themselves and avoid unnecessary intermediary costs. If several people are applying, make one appointment for each person.

You can apply up to six months before travel, or nine months if you are a seafarer. The Dutch government says to apply at least 15 days before travel. Starting only 15 days before departure leaves no room for appointment waiting or a longer assessment.

5. Attend in person

NetherlandsWorldwide says that applicants attend the appointment personally, including applicants under 18. Bring the complete file, appointment confirmation, passport, and accepted payment method.

The application centre collects the file and biometrics as required. The Dutch authorities make the decision.

6. Track the application

Keep the VFS receipt and reference number. Use the official tracking route linked by VFS. Status updates describe where the application or passport is in the process; they do not reveal the decision before return.

Common mistakes

Avoid these preventable problems:

• applying to the Netherlands when another country is the main destination;
• booking one appointment for an entire family when one is required per person;
• using an expired UAE residence document;
• presenting different dates across the form, insurance, accommodation, and transport;
• choosing the wrong appointment category; or
• relying on an old third-party checklist.

If Dubai shows no appointments

Because the official route currently lists both Dubai and Abu Dhabi, check whether Abu Dhabi has a suitable date. Consider the travel time and whether every applicant can attend.
