Can't Find a Schengen Visa Appointment Slot? What to Do Next

Short answer: confirm that you are applying to the correct country, use only its official appointment provider, prepare your booking details in advance, and keep watching for new capacity or cancellations. Slots can appear without a published schedule and may disappear within minutes.

An empty calendar means that no appointments are available for the centre, visa category, and date range you selected at that moment. It does not mean that the consulate has stopped accepting applications.

Why appointments appear after an empty calendar

Appointment providers do not always publish release times. Availability can change for two main reasons:

• Cancellations: another applicant cancels or fails to complete payment, so the provider returns that appointment to the calendar.
• Irregular releases: a consulate or visa centre adds capacity after confirming staff, public holidays, demand, or processing limits. Releases may be added in batches or as individual dates.

There is no dependable universal day or time for VFS Global, BLS International, or TLScontact releases. Treat claims about guaranteed release times with caution unless the provider or consulate publishes them.

Confirm the country before you search

Do not choose a country only because its calendar has an appointment. Under the Schengen rules, you normally apply to:

• the only Schengen country you plan to visit;
• the country where you will spend the most time; or
• the first country you will enter, when stays in several countries are equal.

Dubai appointments

Dubai residents can use a Dubai visa application centre only when the destination country accepts applications there. Many countries use VFS Global in the UAE, while Spain uses the official BLS Spain UAE service.

Check the destination country's embassy or government visa page first, then follow its provider link. Confirm the centre and visa category before creating an account or paying a fee.

Abu Dhabi appointments

Some countries accept short-stay applications in Abu Dhabi, but the rules differ by destination. France currently directs UAE short-stay applicants through VFS Global in Abu Dhabi. Switzerland and the Netherlands list both Abu Dhabi and Dubai centres.

UK appointments

UK residents must also use the provider appointed by their destination country. Depending on the destination, that may be VFS Global, BLS International, TLScontact, or a consular booking system.

Use the TLScontact visa journey selector when the destination uses TLScontact. For other destinations, start on the embassy or official government visa page and follow its booking link. Provider arrangements and booking methods can change. For example, some routes use a queue or automatic allocation instead of a live calendar.

Booking-readiness checklist

An appointment can disappear while you search for account details. Prepare these items before you monitor the calendar:

• passport number, issue date, and expiry date for every applicant;
• residence permit or Emirates ID details where required;
• intended travel dates and the correct visa category;
• an email address and mobile number you can access immediately;
• the login for the official appointment provider;
• a payment card enabled for online transactions; and
• the names and passport details of every person in a group booking.

Apply early enough

You may normally submit a Schengen visa application up to six months before travel. The European Commission says that you should lodge it at least 15 days before departure. That 15-day period does not include the time needed to find an appointment, and a consulate may take longer to decide an application.

Start early before summer holidays, Eid breaks, school holidays, and year-end travel.
