Portugal Visa Appointment from Dubai: How to Apply

The Embassy of Portugal uses VFS Global as its official visa application partner in the UAE. The current VFS Portugal site lists application services and centres in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Start from the official Portugal VFS page for the UAE. Do not use a Portugal booking page for another country of residence because its centres, fees, and document rules will differ.

Confirm that Portugal should examine your application

Apply to Portugal if it is your only Schengen destination or the country where you will spend the most time. If you will spend equal time in several Schengen countries, apply to the country you will enter first.

A Portugal appointment is not a legal workaround for an unavailable France, Italy, or Netherlands appointment. The itinerary and supporting documents must show that Portugal is the correct destination.

Choose a short-stay application for a visit of up to 90 days

A Schengen short-stay application covers visits of no more than 90 days in any 180-day period. Tourism, some business trips, and visits to family or friends can fall within this category.

Longer stays for residence, work, or study follow Portugal's national visa process. Select the correct category before booking. A centre may refuse to accept an application booked under the wrong category.

Follow the official application steps

The current VFS process is organised around these stages:

1. Identify the correct visa type.
2. Complete the required application form.
3. Book an appointment at an authorised UAE centre.
4. Pay the required visa and service fees through the stated method.
5. Attend the appointment and submit the application.
6. Keep the receipt and use the official tracking service.
7. Collect the passport or use an available return service.

Each family or group member may need an individual appointment. Check the UAE booking instructions before selecting dates.

Prepare the documents before you chase a slot

Use the checklist linked from the UAE Portugal application route. A tourism file commonly includes:

• a completed and signed application form;
• a valid passport;
• proof of legal UAE residence;
• a compliant photograph;
• travel medical insurance;
• evidence of accommodation;
• transport reservations and an itinerary;
• proof of sufficient funds;
• proof of employment, study, business ownership, or sponsorship; and
• evidence that supports your return to the UAE.

The consular authority may ask for more documents. Submitting every item does not guarantee approval.

Check both UAE centres only when permitted

The official Portugal VFS site currently provides centre information for Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Open the "Find a centre" section and confirm the available category at the centre you intend to use.

Do not infer jurisdiction from another country's process. Portugal's current centre rules control a Portuguese application.

Allow time after the appointment

The European Commission describes 15 days as the normal Schengen decision period, with longer periods possible in individual cases. Appointment waiting time comes before the decision period.

Apply early. Most applicants can lodge an application up to six months before travel. Avoid non-refundable travel purchases that depend on a decision arriving on a specific day.

If no Portugal dates are available

Confirm that you selected:

• United Arab Emirates as the country of application;
• Portugal as the destination;
• the correct UAE centre;
• short stay as the visa family; and
• the correct purpose of travel.

If the selections are correct, continue monitoring the official calendar. Do not buy a resold appointment or change your itinerary on paper to reach another country's calendar.
