Switzerland Visa Appointment from Dubai: A UAE Resident's Guide

UAE residents applying for a short-stay visa to Switzerland submit through VFS Global. The Swiss Embassy lists visa application centres in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

You must book an appointment before submitting the application. The Swiss Embassy's UAE guidance says that neither VFS Global nor the visa section accepts an application without a prior appointment.

Check that Switzerland is your main destination

The Swiss Embassy in Abu Dhabi processes applications from permanent residents of the UAE and Bahrain whose main destination is Switzerland or Liechtenstein.

Apply through Switzerland if:

• Switzerland is the only Schengen country on your trip;
• you will spend more time in Switzerland than in any other Schengen country; or
• your stays are equal and Switzerland is your first Schengen entry point.

The Embassy says that it will not accept an application that names another Schengen country as the main destination.

Complete the application and book VFS

The Swiss authorities require applicants to complete the visa application form before scheduling the appointment. Follow the application link from the Embassy's page, then use the official VFS Global route for Switzerland in the UAE.

When both centres have dates, choose either Dubai or Abu Dhabi according to the current official instructions. Check the selected centre on the final confirmation before you pay or make travel arrangements.

Use the correct checklist

Switzerland publishes separate checklists for tourism, private visits, and business travel. Use the checklist for your real purpose.

The March 2026 tourism checklist includes requirements concerning:

• a completed and signed application form;
• a travel document issued within the previous 10 years;
• passport validity extending at least three months beyond the intended Schengen departure;
• at least two blank passport pages;
• a recent ICAO-compliant photograph;
• biometric data when applicable;
• legal UAE residence;
• travel medical insurance;
• accommodation and transport;
• financial means; and
• employment, sponsorship, or another basis for your circumstances in the UAE.

Check the UAE residence requirement

The Swiss Embassy says that third-country nationals living in the UAE must show their UAE residence visa and Emirates ID. The residence documents normally need to remain valid for at least one month beyond the planned return from the Schengen area. If renewal is pending, consult the current checklist for the evidence required.

Do not assume that every Schengen country uses the same residence-validity rule. Follow Switzerland's current list for a Swiss application.

Allow for processing time

The Embassy states that the normal decision period is 15 calendar days. Some applications take longer, including cases that require consultation or more documents.

You may submit as early as six months before the trip. Do not book a late appointment on the assumption that the normal period is a guaranteed deadline.

Understand what VFS can and cannot do

VFS Global receives the application and returns the passport after the Embassy completes the process. VFS charges a service fee in addition to any visa fee.

The Embassy decides whether to issue the visa. Optional VFS services do not improve the chance of approval or shorten the consular assessment.

The Swiss Embassy also warns applicants that booking an appointment is free and that no travel agency has special rights to guarantee a visa.

If Dubai has no appointments

Check whether Abu Dhabi has availability because the Swiss authorities currently list both UAE centres. Confirm that the date, category, and centre work for every applicant before booking.
